ABOUT
015 Keramiek.
I believe in the power of craft, and I love clay. Over the years, the age-old craft of pottery has become part of who I am. It has become my way of life.
Our pieces are fired above 1250 degrees, which is what makes them stoneware. The high temperature makes them non-porous and extra strong. They are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe, weatherproof and frost resistant.
Tradition
rediscovered.
Clay is a wonderful, malleable material that can be found almost everywhere, and with traditional craftsmanship it becomes a beautiful and durable ceramic product. Over the years, the age-old craft of pottery has become part of who I am. It has become my way of life.
015 Keramiek works with potter's wheels, a slab roller, a clay extruder and its own plaster moulds. I keep developing my skills and sharing knowledge with ceramic experts around the world, especially craftspeople with deep traditional knowledge, and I am always looking for ways to connect age-old techniques with modern technology. The entire production process takes place in the Netherlands, all under the roof of the 015 Keramiek pottery in the heart of Schiedam.
- LOCATION Schiedam, NL
- SPECIALISATION Handmade tableware, art, home accessories
- MISSION Durable ceramics as an alternative to plastic
Anja,
ceramicist.
For more than twenty years, Anja pursued her dream of starting a pottery while life had other plans. Her foundation in ceramics was laid in nursery school, and with a few breaks along the way she has kept building on it with passion and drive. She has an endless interest in the history of ceramics and never tires of experimenting with techniques. Over the years she learned and mastered many ceramic disciplines, hoping it would all come together one day. That happened 9 years ago in Delft (hence the name 015 Keramiek).
More than ten years in the fashion industry, including her own clothing boutique in Italy (where she lived for 30 years), gave her a deep understanding of colour theory, combinations and taste, which she now brings to her choice and pairing of glazes. The glazes are made to her own recipes, and she is rightly proud of them. She describes herself as self-taught: the road to mastery is longer and unpaved, but it gives her the priceless freedom to develop creatively. She is fascinated by how quickly technology moves and is always looking for ways to connect the age-old craft to it.
- ROLE Ceramicist, teacher and artist
- BACKGROUND Self-taught in wheel throwing, slab building and sculpting; masterclasses in Verona, Treviso and Mogliano and with fellow potters worldwide; fashion industry, colour theory and glaze techniques
- APPROACH Self-taught, exploring boundaries, old craft meets new technology
- PUBLICATIONS A book about life experiences and a poetry collection; a book about her life as a potter is in the works
Craft as a
way of life.
Treating clay, tools and hard-won knowledge with gratitude and respect. Drawing on inner strength to master the craft. Constantly looking for inspiration to create and experiment. Connecting ceramics with every layer of life. That is how pottery becomes a way of life.
Design, making, glazing and packaging all take place in the Netherlands. That way we make sure our products meet standards of sustainability, environmental friendliness and European safety.
Clay is an inexhaustible natural resource. We keep waste to a minimum: clay is reused again and again until it is fired, glaze is used up completely, and leftovers of different glazes are combined for our special edition. We are proud to be a circular business. Our packaging is environmentally friendly.
A cosy, clean studio with plants, music and good coffee. We put ourselves in the shoes of every order: who will enjoy the new piece, what does the user expect, why this piece? That makes every making process a unique challenge with its own positive vibe, forever anchored in the finished product.
